When something elates you, it lifts up your mood or your spirit. So, elation is a sudden feeling of strong happiness, as if your heart has been lifted up into the clouds. And if you're elated, you feel suddenly, incredibly happy, as if you could float or fly.

What makes you feel elated? Maybe you're elated when you win a game. Maybe you're elated by seeing a beloved old friend for the first time in years. Or maybe you're elated when your family surprises you on your birthday with your very favorite dessert!

Elation is usually a mixture of both happiness and surprise. When something wonderful and unexpected happens to you, you feel elated. And your heart feels lifted up.

Idea 1: "I had no idea that (something magical, beautiful, or exciting was about to happen), and when it did, I felt elated."

Idea 2: "I was elated to discover that I could (do or achieve something new and amazing)."
