A long time ago, we used the word "list" to mean "joy, delight, happiness" and "desire." We don't use those meanings anymore. But we do use the word "listless," which means "joyless, unhappy, without any desires."

In other words, when you're feeling listless, you're feeling tired, with no energy, and no desire to do anything.

When you're in a listless mood, you're bored. And boring! You're not doing much of anything. You might lie around listlessly, or sigh listlessly, or gaze listlessly into the distance.

Listlessness is that blah, boring feeling of not caring and not wanting to do anything. How do you beat listlessness? How do you shrug off your listlessness? When I'm feeling listless, sometimes I splash cold water on my face, and that gives me a little zing of energy.
